Description/Notes: | Primary Purpose: Perform on-site technical work to install and maintain computer equipment and network and software applications throughout the district. Respond to work order requests by diagnosing and repairing network and computer hardware. Provide a point of contact for all district staff to assist and resolve problems relating to computer and communications related services. Responsible for phone support, technology-problem evaluation, and technology-related work orders. Administer and operate the district’s central administrative computer networks. Develop, maintain, and monitor all district local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN). Responsible for installation, testing, and oversight of all network hardware, personal computers, software, and related equipment. Qualifications: Education/Certification 2 Year Technical degree or A+ Certification Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of computer workstation setup Ability to diagnose, install, maintain, and repair computers and peripherals devices Broad knowledge of computer hardware and software applications Knowledge of various operating systems (Windows, Macintosh) Knowledge of software used to develop spreadsheets, databases, and word processing Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Knowledge of LAN and WAN network design and installation Knowledge of network hardware and software applications including network servers, printers, and other equipment Ability to work with multiple network operating systems and network protocols Ability to analyze and resolve computer network problems Major Responsibilities and Duties: Installation Install network cabling and network peripherals throughout the district. Relocate computer hardware, peripherals, and equipment as needed. Install and configure software as needed. Assist with the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of data communications circuits and equipment. Telephone Support 5. Receive phone calls and assist end-users to resolve problems and utilize software. 6. Work cooperatively with end-users to detect and resolve hardware problems. 7. Communicate with software and hardware vendors to resolve end-user problems. 8. Evaluate and recommend technology-related repairs and costs. 9. Arrange for contract repairs for work that cannot be performed by district staff. Records and Reports 10. Oversee software materials and licenses, performing routine inventories and filing. 11. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required. 12. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy. Equipment Repair and Maintenance 13. Service equipment according to established preventive maintenance schedule. 14. Maintain accurate updated records of preventive maintenance. Safety 15. Operate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures. 16. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing and carrying. Network Security 17. Develop and implement a district wide security system for all systems; ensure network security by maintaining network, Internet, and E-mail accounts. 18. Design and implement backup procedures to ensure that backup of all networks and workstations are performed on a regular basis. 19. Oversee district backups and restore district data as needed. 20. Assist with development and implementation of a disaster recovery plan. Technical Support 21. Process technology-related work-orders and recognize district priority to work orders. 22. Evaluate and recommend technology related repairs and costs. 23. Arrange for contract repairs for work that cannot be performed by district staff. 24. Serve as liaison to software and hardware vendors to maintain appropriate product support. 25. Maintain network design and configuration documentation. 26. Provide assistance to end users to identify and correct equipment and software related problems. Other 27. Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed. 28. Identify and recommend the acquisition of software and hardware to meet the automation and networking needs of district staff. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Equipment Used: Hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations. Personal computers, phone, two-way radio, printer, fax machine, and other computer peripherals. Working Conditions: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Climbing, stooping, bending, and kneeling; frequent use of small hand tools and electronic test equipment; frequent district wide travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours. May be required to be on-call after hours. Prolonged use of computer and telephone; repetitive hand motions. |
