Description/Notes: | JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY: The Assistant Superintendent for Academics is an executive administrator for the Districts curriculum and instructional programs. The incumbent will provide leadership, assistance, and supervision for the efficient operation of units and elements of the organization involving curriculum, multilingual education, technology integration, humanities, and STEM. This position will direct the operation, planning, development, and administration of all central office programs in support of the Districts mission to provide outstanding opportunities for academic achievement for all students. Incumbent is responsible for ensuring the implementation of the Boards policies while working within the boundaries of the executive limitations. |
Qualifications: | MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Masters degree with an emphasis in curriculum, instruction, and school leadership is required. A Doctorate degree is preferred. A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience at the campus level or in central administration is required. District-wide experience or experience at elementary school, middle school, and high school is preferred. An administrator certification is preferred. SKILL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a strong instructional foundation and the incumbent to stay current on instructional administration techniques, development of curriculum, instructional tools and strategies, and effective instructional practices utilized at the state and national level, integrating findings into the local organization where appropriate. This position requires thorough knowledge of the Texas Education Code, thorough understanding of curriculum and instruction and other student-related services, ability to use technology in administrative and educational settings, excellent organizational ability, demonstrated oral and written communication skills, problem-solving and consensus-building expertise, and excellent human relations skills. The ability to delegate responsibilities effectively is of critical importance. This position also requires knowledge of balanced literacy, multilingual education/dual language programs, Social Emotional Learning, standards-based mathematics, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), planning, accreditation, grants development, and management. The employee in this position must be able to read, write, and speak/communicate in English in order to receive and to provide work-related information in a timely manner to other employees, supervisors, principals, school personnel, volunteers and when appropriate, visitors and students.
