Description/Notes: LSSP Primary Purpose:
Implement the special education evaluation process. Evaluate the educational, psychological, and program needs of students referred to special education services or students needing to be re-evaluated for special education services. Provide diagnostic information and work cooperatively with instructional personnel, administrators and parents to provide the most appropriate programs for students with disabilities

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Assessment
1. Perform all initial and three-year evaluations for students on assigned campuses which include selecting and administrating formal/informal evaluations to determine student eligibility for special education services according to federal and TEA regulations within timelines.
2. Write complete and accurate evaluation reports in accordance with TEA regulations and district professional standards.
3. Collect and organize relevant assessment data from student’s cumulative folder, classroom teachers, principal, support-staff, parents and outside resource people.
4. Attend admission, review and dismissal (ARD) committee meetings to interpret test results and develop appropriate instructional strategies to meet students’ educational needs.
5. Assist classroom teachers and campus administrators with the development of IEP and BIP.
6. Review or accept evaluation reports for transfer students within the 30-day timeline and determine areas where additional evaluation data may be needed for eligibility or program development.
7. Become proficient on the district’s electronic IEP/ARD paperwork.
8. Prioritize tasks and project in a expedient manner.
9. Maintain knowledge of special education law and its impact at the local level.
10. Maintain knowledge of evaluation instruments and their use in determining special education eligibility and the development of individual education plans.
Consultation
11. Provide consultative support to school staff through response to intervention (rti) process, offering suggestions for strategies and interventions that may be implemented in the general education classroom to meet the needs of students with academic and/or behavioral problems.
12. Conduct group, individual and family counseling sessions and facilitative therapy for students with diagnosed problems.
13. Serve as consultant on mental health topics for instructors in the school health program.
14. Consult with school staff regarding implementation of behavior intervention plans and in managing behaviorally disruptive students.
15. Provide staff development training in assigned schools to assist school personnel with identification and understanding of students with emotional, social, and behavioral disturbances.
16. Meet with parents to discuss pertinent background information and test results.
17. Consult with teachers and relevant staff concerning the educational needs of students and interpretation of assessment data.
18. Consult with psychologists, psychiatrists, medical doctors, and community agencies concerning intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning of students as needed.

Program Management
19. Develop and maintain effective individual and group relationships with students and parents.
20. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of psychological services and assessment procedures and make changes based on findings.
21. Assist in the selection of assessment materials and equipment.
22. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including case records, test results, statistical data, and test inventories.
23. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy in the areas of psychological services, assessment, placement, and planning for special education services.
24. Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations.
25. Participate in professional development activities to improve skills related to job assignment.
26. Assist and collaborate with Early Childhood Intervention (ECI). Coordinate and schedule transition screenings and assessments for children ages 3 & 4.

Communication

27. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
28. Consult with school staff regarding implementation of behavior intervention plans and in managing behaviorally disruptive students.
29. Effectively communicate with colleagues, students and parents.

Qualifications: LSSP Qualifications:
Acceptable criminal history record and fingerprinting results

Education/Certification:
Master’s degree in psychology from accredited college or university
Valid Texas license as a licensed specialist in school psychology granted by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists*

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of procedures for assessing achievement and intellectual, emotional, and behavioral functioning for educational purposes
Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management interventions
Knowledge of psycho-social development
Strong consultation skills for conferencing with teachers, parents, and students
Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:
Two years experience providing psychology services in an educational setting
Experience in a public school setting providing full individual evaluations (FIE) for students referred to special education or in need of reevaluation is preferred.
Experience in the ARD process utilized in Texas Public Schools is preferred.
Salary Range: LSSP position is on the Administrative Professional Pay Plan
Minimum: $50,615 - $58,771 for 197 days.
