A "rural oasis" in south central Texas, we are surrounded by Seguin, New Braunfels, and San Marcos and is conveniently located near both San Antonio and Austin. All four of our campuses are within walking distance.

Description/Notes: Major Responsibilities and Duties:

This position works at both campuses.

Instruction
1. Provide group instruction and individual guidance to students to help them locate resources and use research techniques, and select books that align with personal interests.
2. Consult teachers on appropriate use of materials and help them schedule materials for classroom instruction.
3. Serve as information resource for users of library/media center materials and provide staff development opportunities for teachers on the availability and use of campus and district and global learning resources.



Library Programs
4. Effectively plan and execute school library program to meet identified needs.
5. Provide educational resources in a variety of formats to support and extend the curriculum of the school and to meet individual student needs.
6. Assist in preparation of bibliographies and curriculum guides.
7. Select, purchase and maintain audio-visual equipment.
8. Manage acquisitions, processing, organizing, distribution, maintenance, weeding, and inventory of resources and equipment.
9. Review and select global resources (e.g., research databases, Accelerated Reader)
10. Create and maintain district and campus library website with online resources.
11. Encourage use of online/streaming video programs for educational purposes.
12. Create a library/media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of students that will promote lifelong practices of reading and learning.
13. Promote ethical behavior with both staff and students in the use of district technology and information sources.
14. Schedule and supervise the preparation of Book Fairs, GAO Magazine orders and other programs or fundraisers that benefit and support library programs and operations.
15. Use appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement. Compile budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
Student Management
17. Carry out discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations.
18. Interact with students to promote positive attitudes toward school library.
Administration
19. Compile budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
20. Perform collection assessment and development procedures to assess needs and provide up to date reading material and resources and a balanced collection that aligns with the campus curriculum.
21. Design book and other media orders based upon requests, student and staff interests, social emotional needs, curriculum needs, assessment results, and professional book and media reviews.
22. Manage library budgets for books, general supplies, periodicals, maintenance, contracted maintenance, travel, and activity account.
23. Acquire quotes for library supplies and materials and provide justifications for orders.
24. Prepare and submit bid specifications and documents for approval, contact vendors, compile addresses, and oversee mailing operations.
25. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
26. Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and board policy in the library/media services area using the Texas State Standards and Guidelines for School Library Programs.
27. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the library/media center program and make changes based on the findings using the Texas State Standards and Guidelines for School Library Programs.
28. Provide leadership in working with administration and faculty to establish policies of library services to meet the needs of students and faculty.
29. Participate in the planning of new library facilities or in the remodeling of existing libraries.
30. Maintain schedules for the use of the library and computer labs and check-out laptops.
31. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
32. Campus(s) textbook manager.
Communication
33. Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
34. Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
35. Maintain positive relationships with vendors and company representatives who provide services for our school libraries.
Professional Growth
36. Continue professional growth through conferences, workshops, and in-service programs.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Train and supervise clerical aide(s), student aides, and volunteers.

Other:
The Librarian is ultimately responsible for all duties performed by library aides, clerical staff and volunteers. Must performs all duties outlined in the Library Aide Job Description with varying frequency.
Serve on district and/or campus committees (e.g., Technology Committee, Site-Based Committee, and Curriculum Committee.)
Equipment Used:
Personal and laptop computers, Chrome books and iPads, printers, peripheral storage devices, cameras, copier, label maker, television monitors, Distance Learning system, DVD/VCR players/recorders, cassette tape recorders/players, digital recording devices, CD players, projectors, multi-line telephone system, and additional equipment as acquired and needed.

Working Conditions: Mental Conditions/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent walking, standing, climbing, heavy lifting and carrying. Climbing, stretching, frequent light lifting of books, and boxes. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and ladders. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials.
Qualifications: Qualifications

Education/Certification:
Masters degree from accredited college or university (for individuals certified after January 23, 2001)
Valid Texas Librarian or Learning Resources Specialist certificate or endorsement
Meets SBEC Technology Applications Standards for Teachers
Acceptable criminal history record and fingerprinting results

Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of library science, curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct and manage student behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to work with multiple technology platforms
Ability to assist staff and students with technical issues regarding school issued devices
Ability to lift stacks of textbooks/equipment weighing up to 50 pounds

Experience:
Minimum of two years experience as a classroom teacher
Minimum of two years leading staff development sessions
Prior experience in a campus/district leadership role
Salary Range: Salary based on creditable years of experience from NISD salary schedule.
