LOCATION. Colmesneil is an unincorporated village of 596 (2010 Census), located in Tyler County, 9 miles from the county seat, Woodville. The village is situated in the extreme east- central part of the state, approximately 50 miles from the Louisiana border.

ECONOMIC INFORMATION. Since its inception in the early 1880s, timber, farming, and livestock (and later minerals) have been Colmesneil ISD’s principal sources of taxable revenue.

HIGHER EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES. Lamar University, a four-year college offering a number of undergraduate and graduate programs, and its satellite, Lamar Institute of Technology, are located in Beaumont, TX., approximately 65 miles south of Colmesneil. Stephen F. Austin University, in Nacogdoches, and Sam Houston State University, in Huntsville, also offer four-year curriculums. Both are within 60-80 miles of Colmesneil.

RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. Hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and water sports, are all available within a short drive of Colmesneil. The terrain is rolling, timbered, and simply one of the most beautiful unspoiled natural areas in East Texas. The Big Thicket, and several other federal and state-maintained wild life preserves, are nearby, and welcome visitors year-round.

URBAN LIFE. The Beaumont / Port Arthur/ Orange area (The “Golden Triangle”), is a metropolitan center of 300,000, 65 miles south of Colmesneil. It is supported by petroleum refining, chemical processing, and two related world-wide shipping ports. Houston, 120 miles to the south and west of Colmesneil, with its major league football, baseball, basketball, and soccer teams, is another source of accessible diversion.

STRONG, EXPERIENCED BOARD OF TRUSTEES. Five of the seven sitting trustees have served 7 years or more on the CISD board. Their positions of employment are diverse, and their community involvement wide –ranging. The successful applicant will be supported by a team of leaders who care about public education.
Qualifications: Current Texas Superintendent Certificate

A doctorate is not required.

Superintendent experience preferred, but not required. Applicants with experience as an assistant superintendent, or as a secondary school principal, will be considered.

Applicants must be currently employed by a Texas independent school district in one of the indicated administrative positions. However, if an applicant has voluntarily retired from such a position, and is now considering a return to public education, the CISD Board, after a thorough examination of the applicant’s prior circumstances, may elect to make an exception.
Salary Range: An annual base salary of $110,000.00. This sum will be subject to negotiation, based on prior superintendent experience.
