Description/Notes: Position Summary:

Ensures that the school's special education (SPED) program provides necessary services for students with disabilities. Work with parents, general education teachers, and administrators to develop and implement individualized education plans to meet the needs of students with identified disabilities. Ensure compliance with all federal, state and district SPED requirements.


Qualifications:

Education/Certification

Completed Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college of university
Valid Texas Teacher Certification in the area of special education
Additional Texas state certification in the area of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies (preferred)
Successfully complete a professional development course or program approved by TxVSN; OR
Have a graduate degree in online or distance learning;
Have two or more years of documented experience teaching online courses for students in Grades 3-12; AND
Successfully complete continuing professional development specific to online learning every three years.

Experience

1-3 years of Special Education teaching experience in a Texas Public School
1-3 years of inclusion and/or resource setting teaching experience (Preferred)
Experience with the development of IEP goals and completion of ARD paperwork (Preferred)
Experience with managing and overseeing a SPED student case load of 10 or more students (Preferred)

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

Advanced knowledge of federal and state special education law.
Working knowledge the implementation and monitoring of individualized educational plans for students with identified disabilities.
Advanced knowledge of and compliance with the Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process.
Knowledge of and experience with the development and implementation of standards-based IEP goals in various content areas for multiple grade levels.
Knowledge of and experience with Transition Planning.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; both for in-person and online modalities.
Well-developed computer skills that includes a comfort with implementing and accessing multiple and diverse programs to serve student needs.
Ability to learn and implement teaching curriculum software programs and instruct students on its use.
Ability to learn and manage the coordination of ARD meeting scheduling and development of ARD paperwork.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of students with disabilities, their parents, the community, peers, administrators, and corporate staff.
Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and student data such as diagnostic test results, state assessments scoring, transcripts, and progress measures, etc.
Ability to transition with district, campus, and/or department changes.
Ability to communicate effectively with and receive guidance from supervisors
Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
Update and send IEP Progress Reports to parents at the same time that the general report cards are sent.
Plan the necessary time, resources, and materials to support general education teachers in accomplishing educational goals of students receiving special education services.
Ensure compliance with all state mandated assessments and alternative assessments, including their selection and administration.
Assist the campus administrator with the Response to Intervention process.
Develop and implement transition services for special education students as determined by the ARD.
Serve as the campus resource person and trainer for all campus staff to support students with disabilities.
Seek assistance as needed from IDEA Coordination supervisor.
Demonstrate support for the campus's student management policies and assist with behavior management strategies as they relate to students with disabilities.
Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, teachers, and administrators.
Recommend sound policies to improve the campus special education program.
Implement ResponsiveEd’s Special Education school board policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
Compile and maintain all reports, records, and other documents required by law and/or the Director of Special Education.
Serve as a test administrator during all state testing examination windows as needed; which may require overnight travel.
Perform special projects, during and after normal business hours, and other duties as assigned. NOTE: After normal business hours may include, but is not limited to, Saturday Tutorials, overnight travel, state testing administration, etc.
Work closely with General Education teachers to ensure accommodations are implemented effectively and with consistency.
Actively participate in marketing and student recruiting activities as necessary.
Read and comply with the ResponsiveEd Employee Handbook, the ResponsiveEd Student-Parent Handbook, administrative directives, and other manuals and procedures documents
